Drinking water helps reduce obesity in children

Health & Well Being at Work

A study in Germany has found that encouraging water consumption in children can help to reduce obesity. In the trial, water fountains were installed in 32 elementary schools in two cities for use by a selection of second- and third-grade students. Teachers also encouraged the drinking of water through the use of four prepared classroom lessons. In comparison to a control group, the 'water drinking' group were found to drink 1.1 glasses of water more each day and to have a 31% reduced risk of becoming overweight. This helps to show the evident health benefits of water and hydration, be it helping children with school water coolers or providing access to water in the office.
