Carbon neutral coolers across Europe

As a leading brand of drinking solutions in the office, our commitment  to providing a convenient and environmentally-friendly source of hydration has now resulted in our operations in Denmark and Finland becoming 100% carbon neutral, with Norway and Netherlands to follow in early 2012.

They join the UK, France, Switzerland and Sweden in being certified CarbonNeutral®, where we were the first company to offer carbon neutral certified water coolers.

Ongoing commitment

Our ongoing commitment to achieving CarbonNeutral® includes life cycle assessments to measure carbon footprint, route planning systems for all vehicles, water coolers with low consumption and longer life span for bottles, renewable energy technology, and reduction of paper use.

Eden Springs water coolers go Carbon Neutral®

carbon neutral water

First certified CO2 neutral company in the water cooler industry

carbon-neutral-water

Supporting our position as the UK market leader we have become the first low carbon water cooler company in the UK to achieve CarbonNeutral® company and product certification, achieved in partnership with the CarbonNeutral Company.

Unlike some carbon offsetting programmes it is based upon a comprehensive, carbon-reducing full life cycle assessment – we have worked with Swiss experts Quantis International, an international leader in this field, who have helped us analyse and improve all areas of the business, including transport, production, cooler selection and even office behaviour.

Energy saving intiatives for water industry

Numerous beneficial environmental programmes were identified and implemented straight away across the UK business, such as:

  • energy-starAll Eden Springs water coolers are selected using the Energy Star recommendations, resulting in a 50% reduction in energy consumption.
  • Water delivery services are optimised for fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact through routing systems for all transport vehicles.
  • Fuel efficient vehicles and eco-friendly vehicles help save fuel.
  • Eden customers are encouraged to dispose cups etc into recycling bins to reduce impact upon landfills and the environment.

Net zero carbon emissions

In addition to becoming a low carbon company, remaining greenhouse gas emissions were reduced to net zero through the purchase of carbon credits from clean and renewable technology offset projects. The projects, in regions where it is crucial to limit the global levels of greenhouse gas emissions, include a run-of-river hydro power project in India and a methane capture initiative in China. This means that for every unavoidable tonne of carbon generated in our operations the same amount is prevented from entering the atmosphere through these projects.

Protecting precious resources

Eden Springs’ UK Managing Director, Jean-Marc Bolinger, said: “As a company, we fully understand that water is one of our planet’s most precious resources and we are acutely aware of the importance of protecting it. Being the first in our industry to achieve CarbonNeutral® certification for both our company and products demonstrates our long term commitment to environmental responsibility.

“We take great pride as a company that we have taken this lead in the industry, where others are now following, and it helps us define our position as market leaders. We believe that we have set a benchmark for a new industry standard in environmental practices.”

On 31 March 2011 Eden Springs joined other representatives of the British Water Cooler Association in Crewe for a conference to discuss the future of the water cooler industry. Also invited to this special event were industry buyers and procurement managers from both private and public sectors, plus suppliers, manufacturers, bottlers and distributors – everyone involved in meeting hydration needs in the UK’s workplaces and homes.

Taking an in-depth look at the entire water cooler industry and incorporating the entire market, delegates discussed the benefits of bottled vs mains-fed coolers and what the future might hold for everyone in the sector. And of course there was plenty of water to be drunk inbetween the sessions!

Speakers included Charmain Holmes from Zenith International (who confirmed Eden Springs as the leading UK water cooler supplier in 2007) and Eden Springs UK’s own Managing Director Jean-Marc Bolinger, who explained how important environmental factors are in the hydration industry and challenged much of the rhetoric and fiction that exists.

Water Cooler companies – they’re not all the same

How do you decide which water cooler hire company is the right one for you? It’s not just a question of price, but about the other factors that will make sure you get a service you can rely on.

Water quality

One of the first things to look at is the quality of the water as this directly affects your health. A reputable bottled water cooler company will ensure that the quality of the water supply is excellent (as we do).  And you don’t have to take our word for it.

One of the reasons that that we tell you about the associations we belong to is so that you can be sure that we are adhering to an agreed set of quality and safety standards. Our membership of the British Water Cooler Association (BWCA), the European Drinking Water Cooler Association (EDWCA)  and the International Bottled Water Association (IBWA) is your guarantee. And with ISO 9000 accreditation for Quality Management, you can be sure that you’re always getting the best from us.

Environmental responsibility

It’s a good idea to choose a company that does more than pay lip service to its environmental obligations, too. At Eden we’re proud of our actions in this area. Our commitment to reduce CO2 emissions is on record, and we’re carrying out life cycle analysis to see the impact of our products.

Customer satisfaction

Any good bottled water cooler company should go the extra mile to ensure customer satisfaction. Who wants to go elsewhere for accessories or to have the equipment sanitized? At Eden Springs, we make sure you can get everything you need when you buy or hire a water cooler. That’s why we’ve got so many satisfied customers  who have taken the time to tell us how pleased they are with our service.

EPDWA now the European Drinking Water Cooler Association

edwca european drinking water cooler association

Eden Springs are proud members of the European Point-of-use Drinking Water Assocation (EPDWA), which has now been renamed the European Drinking Water Cooler Association (EDWCA). The EDWCA helps to maintain high standards within the European point-of-use water cooler market – more commonly referred to as the plumbed-in or mains-fed water cooler market. The new name is designed to better reflect the more widely-used terms for this area of the drinking water industry, removing some of the misunderstanding caused by the ‘point-of-use’ water cooler name that is largely only used by those within the water cooler business.

The alteration of the name will not make any major difference to the regulatory body’s function, and they will continue to ensure the quality standards of accredited water cooler companies such as Eden Springs UK.

The EDWCA have said:

Although as an association we have now formally included Bottled and Boxed Water, the EDWCA will of course continue to promote first and foremost the development of the fast growing POU business everywhere.

Plumbed-in Water Coolers

The plumbed-in or mains-fed water cooler industry has seen significant growth over the last decade as businesses with large numbers of employees or minimal storage space for bottles look to find a cost-effective hydration solution. Plumbed water coolers take water directly from your mains supply, meaning chilled water without the need for bottle delivery.
