Eden Springs, as Europe’s leading office hydration provider, have been working hard to understand the coffee machine industry and the coffee needs of our wide range of customers.
Meeting the demand for cappuccinos, lattes and espressos and supplying the brands you respect and trust – like Kraft, Kenco and Lavazza – has meant that Eden have taken an in-depth look into the coffee culture in the UK and Europe.
“We are confident that customers will love this new offering” said Antonio de Alarcon, vice president of business development. “Eden has worked hard to become a leading brand in the drinking water solutions market, but we are now faced with a big opportunity to position ourselves as the leading provider for full-scale hydration solutions.”
Complete coffee solution
Raanan Zilberman, CEO of Eden Springs, commented: “We realised that we have created an amazing delivery platform for drinking solutions within the work place environment.”
“The provision of a complete coffee solution – across 16 countries – illustrates the confidence we have to look after customers in this area. [It] will also include the provision of other hot drinks such as teas, chocolate and herbal infusions.”
Eden Springs has won first prize in the coveted Aqua Awards 2011 for Best Environmental Practice, continuing work to become CarbonNeutral® by certifying an additional four international operations and further displaying our dedication as the industry leader in bottled water sustainability.
Speaking after the award was given at a Watercoolers Europe convention in Ukraine, CEO of Eden Springs Group Raanan Zilberman said
We are proud to receive this award. Our goal is to share the steps we take to improve our environmental impact and also show how low our carbon footprint actually is compared to other everyday food and beverage products.
Carbon neutral coolers across Europe
As a leading brand of drinking solutions in the office, our commitment to providing a convenient and environmentally-friendly source of hydration has now resulted in our operations in Denmark and Finland becoming 100% carbon neutral, with Norway and Netherlands to follow in early 2012.
They join the UK, France, Switzerland and Sweden in being certified CarbonNeutral®, where we were the first company to offer carbon neutral certified water coolers.
Ongoing commitment
Our ongoing commitment to achieving CarbonNeutral® includes life cycle assessments to measure carbon footprint, route planning systems for all vehicles, water coolers with low consumption and longer life span for bottles, renewable energy technology, and reduction of paper use.
Putting Eden water’s carbon footprint into perspective
Eden Springs, as a low carbon company and the first accredited carbon neutral water cooler company in the UK, are committed to reducing the environmental impact of what we do. However it’s important to know how our products perform in relation to other hydration options and popular products. Thanks to our stringent auditing and research process undertaken as part of our journey to become carbon neutral we know exactly what carbon footprint a glass of our water has.
The Carbon footprint of a product is the total greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted, directly or indirectly, during the extraction, production, distribution and consumption of the product. We can see that a glass of Eden water has a carbon footprint of about 1/6 of that of a glass of orange juice, and almost half that of a cup of tea.
Compare the carbon footprints of several day-to-day drinks or services for yourself:

First certified CO2 neutral company in the water cooler industry
Supporting our position as the UK market leader we have become the first low carbon water cooler company in the UK to achieve CarbonNeutral® company and product certification, achieved in partnership with the CarbonNeutral Company.
Unlike some carbon offsetting programmes it is based upon a comprehensive, carbon-reducing full life cycle assessment – we have worked with Swiss experts Quantis International, an international leader in this field, who have helped us analyse and improve all areas of the business, including transport, production, cooler selection and even office behaviour.
Energy saving intiatives for water industry
Numerous beneficial environmental programmes were identified and implemented straight away across the UK business, such as:
All Eden Springs water coolers are selected using the Energy Star recommendations, resulting in a 50% reduction in energy consumption.
Water delivery services are optimised for fuel efficiency and reduced environmental impact through routing systems for all transport vehicles.
Fuel efficient vehicles and eco-friendly vehicles help save fuel.
Eden customers are encouraged to dispose cups etc into recycling bins to reduce impact upon landfills and the environment.
Net zero carbon emissions
In addition to becoming a low carbon company, remaining greenhouse gas emissions were reduced to net zero through the purchase of carbon credits from clean and renewable technology offset projects. The projects, in regions where it is crucial to limit the global levels of greenhouse gas emissions, include a run-of-river hydro power project in India and a methane capture initiative in China. This means that for every unavoidable tonne of carbon generated in our operations the same amount is prevented from entering the atmosphere through these projects.
Protecting precious resources
Eden Springs’ UK Managing Director, Jean-Marc Bolinger, said: “As a company, we fully understand that water is one of our planet’s most precious resources and we are acutely aware of the importance of protecting it. Being the first in our industry to achieve CarbonNeutral® certification for both our company and products demonstrates our long term commitment to environmental responsibility.
“We take great pride as a company that we have taken this lead in the industry, where others are now following, and it helps us define our position as market leaders. We believe that we have set a benchmark for a new industry standard in environmental practices.”
Tom McCabe, Member of the Scottish Parliament for Hamilton South, recently visited Eden Springs UK’s headquarters in Blantyre, Hamilton, to meet UK Managing Director Jean-Marc Bolinger.
McCabe said: “Eden Springs is a significant Lanarkshire employer and I have seen first-hand the positive and inclusive working environment maintained at the headquarters. The company’s ambitious growth plans will provide a welcome boost to local employment, and the wider Scottish economy, and I look forward to the company’s development over the coming years.”
Water jobs in Scotland
Employee numbers at Eden Springs’ Scotland operations have trebled since 2001, and Eden’s Jean-Marc Bolinger confirmed a strong commitment to the local area: “We will continue to develop our HQ in Blantyre and investments are planned in almost all areas of the business. As the company grows, the concentration of jobs in Scotland are likely to increase, underpinning our key role as a local employer.”
Products and partnerships
“Our industry is currently undergoing a period of major consolidation which presents a significant opportunity for Eden Springs to expand” explains Jean-Marc Bolinger, UK Managing Director. “Over the next few years we look forward to developing new products and partnerships, and building on the environmental sustainability of our production and distribution networks.”
